2011/08/27: Steam cars, Steam trains, steamy windows?

in the two weeks that the car is in our possession we notice a few things that need some attention:

-There’s a scraping sound coming from the left rear when going over speed bumps. It   sounds like the rear tyre hits the body work.
-There’s another continues sound coming from the rear. When speed goes up the sound goes faster and vise versa. Maybe a rear wheel bearing?
-The sump drain plug is covered with some unknown product. Is there something wrong with the screw thread?
-There’s no signs of oil on the dipstick! (noticed as soon as we got home after “car takeaway”
-The left low beam is less bright as the right. When igniting high beam there’s no light on the right at all.
-The “Bremskreis” warning light is flashing ( it had already started 2 flash on the first trip home)
-The horn doesn’t work.
-The hood doesn’t open. U can open it from underneath the car.
-Dashboard light is a no go.
-Door locks are loosening up.
-A few window frames are missing.

When buying the car, the car dealer had told us that such things might occur since the car had been parked for about 6 years. No need to worry though: ”just mail us and we’ll take care of it” he said.
On the 100 mile trip back to the dealer all of a sudden there’s a big cloud of smoke coming out of the exhaust. A big worry for us and another item on the “to do list” for the dealer.
After this animated trip we hand over the key’s and we are taken to the station where we take a train home. Trains used to produce big clouds of white smoke.

I have to cancel my appointment with the importer. The COC has to wait.
